Blind Got Talent Opens Today as the Central Theme for This Year’s World Disability Week
World Disability Week begins today at Bethesda Home and School for the Blind, and the celebration opens with the much-anticipated Blind Got Talent. This inspiring programme leads the week as our central theme, reminding everyone that ability can be found in every person and that creativity continues to shine even when vision is lost.
The week opens with the first round of screenings for Blind Got Talent at nine this morning, along with an official welcome and a guided tour of Bethesda Home. Today sets the tone for a meaningful celebration filled with learning, expression and empowerment.
Tomorrow continues with Creative Expression and Literacy Day. The second phase of auditions for Blind Got Talent will be held at nine in the morning, followed by an engaging session on interactive music and braille literacy. This day encourages participants to explore their creativity while strengthening their literacy skills.
On December 3, we join the world in observing the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. The World Ability in Disability Day Celebration begins at 9:00 a.m., accompanied by a panel session that will highlight lived experiences, challenges, and success stories within the disability community.
The fourth of December brings the Step for Inclusion Rally. The rally kicks off at eight in the morning and will be followed by community outreach and advocacy talks aimed at promoting awareness, acceptance and inclusion.
Talent Advancement Day comes up on the fifth of December with the semi-finals of Blind Got Talent at nine in the morning, together with a talent mentorship clinic designed to help participants polish their skills and grow in confidence.
On the sixth of December, we celebrate Empowerment and Skills Day. Activities will include an assistive technology demonstration and a conversation on rights policies and the power of creating inclusive communities for blind individuals. These sessions will also begin at nine in the morning.
The week reaches its peak on the seventh of December with the grand finale themed Ability in Disability Celebration. At twelve in the afternoon, we will host the graduation ceremony, followed by the final stage of Blind Got Talent, where outstanding participants will display their gifts before a live audience.
Blind Got Talent is not just an event. It is a platform that gives blind individuals the chance to show their strength, express their creativity and inspire the world. As the programme begins today, we invite everyone to follow the journey, support the participants and celebrate a week that honours courage, resilience and true ability.
World Disability Week has begun. Let the talents rise.
